The Mission
The Mexico Cuernavaca mission is a wonderful place to serve and offers diverse geography and climate. As you review the map of our mission you will note we have areas
in the Mexican states of Morelos, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Michoacán. Within these states are coastal areas and breathtaking mountains. The famous volcano, Popocatepetl, can be seen from many parts of Morelos and our missionaries have the opportunity to visit interesting archeological sites such as Xochicalco. Cuernavaca is known as “The City of
the Eternal Spring”, and offers a pleasant year-round climate.
Our missionaries generally travel within their areas by microbus (called “combis”) or on foot. We do not use bicycles here. Shoes here have to be comfortable and suitable for walking—a lot. Laced footwear with appropriate ankle support is desirable. Also for the protection of the sun, we advise missionaries to bring sunglasses, there are certain styles
that have been approved according to the dress and grooming guidelines that must be followed carefully.
In our mission the use of mosquito nets (or canopies) on beds is indispensable in order to avoid mosquito bites since the prevailing climate and humidity in the area favors their development. In most areas of the mission you will find excellent grocery stores and shopping. Fresh fruits and vegetables are plentiful, but they do need to be disinfected before being eaten. Street vendors are everywhere but we caution against eating from them as they do not maintain acceptable sanitary standards. Missionaries are directed to only drink bottled water, including when brushing teeth.
We currently have missionaries serving in our mission from many countries in Latin America, along with missionaries from the United States, and other parts of the world. We love our missionaries with all our hearts and pray for their success and safety each and every day.
